2.  Flashing dot animation exercise

 

3.  Review of video tutorials from learnscratch.org.  Learn how to access and watch tutorials and use the video tutorials list.

 

*If extra time, exploratory time with program (introductory skills, exploring default installed projects, watching video tutorials and replicating)

 

Tuesday

9:15 – 10:00

View/explore completed game projects using LearnScratch.org "Scratch 3" or by viewing default games that come installed with Scratch.

Remix the game using various resources as necessary.

 

 

After Lunch – 3:00

Finish remix gaming projects, share/present (allow students to "beta" each other's games), debrief.

Wednesday

9:15 – 10:15

1.  View video tutorials:

 

2.  View "Stargate" story animation or other, that is pre-installed on Scratch as a "story" project

 

3.  At a Glance: Look over and point out these useful video tutorials from Scratch 2 on LearnScratch.org:

10:00 - Lunch

Laptops, paper, markers

 

1.  Pairs decide which animal topic they will do for their "Animalation" animation/interactive story/game project.

 

2.  Students use Google and other internet resources to search for some basic information to include in their projects, though they may also use prior knowledge.

 

3.  Using paper and markers, students plan at least a 3 scene story, but students should strive to create upwards of ten scenes.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Animation project will have at least 3 scene transitions.
  • There should be some interaction required to move the story forward (i.e. pressing the space bar, moving a sprite, making a selection, etc.).
  • The animation/story/game should include factual information about an animal topic; however it should also be fun and creative.
  • Include a project description and directions in "project notes."

 

 

After Lunch - 3:00

Begin and continue partner work on the animal projects using resources as needed.

Thursday

9:15 – 3:00

Continue partner work on the animal projects using resources as needed.

 

Include any information gathered from the zoo trip.

 

Stop and debrief when necessary, if whole group can benefit.

 

Projects should be completed by the end of this day.

Friday

9:15 – 9:30

SmartBoard

Remind groups of original expectations for projects and discuss the "beta" process.

  • Students will have a short amount of time in rotation to view each other's projects.
  • They will leave notes on a piece of paper denoting any problems they encountered when running the project or interacting with it.
  • They will leave at least one positive comment.

 

 

9:30 - 10:00
